Composting as a gardening activity continues to grow in popularity among environmentally-conscious people. Consider the amount of waste we procure on a daily basis, with the burgeoning landfills serving as the litmus test, and composting becomes the organic contribution we must partake in doing our own individual part to offset the balance that teeters toward a greater number of land usage for waste disposal. Although that is the larger, daunting picture of the unnoticed 800-pound gorilla, a simple look around the yard shows the greater good that can be accomplished by composting what we throw away and reinvest it back to the earth.

Nutrient rich compost is incomparable, i.e. superior, to chemically treated soil that can be purchased at the local home & garden store. The organic matter metabolized by microbes in compost produces better natural soil nutrients for gardens than treated fertilizers. It is simply the way nature recycles itself through the process of decomposition. As natural as that sounds, composting may seem a laborious and slow process but that depends entirely on how much time you put into it as well as the kind of equipment you're using to expedite the process. Controlling what is composted, with the help of composting equipment such as compost bins and compost tumblers, make recycling nature only a matter of taking up the simple and soul-enriching hobby of gardening.
