A full fledged vermiculture system, the Pet Poo Converter bin is specially designed to recycle doggie poo into nutritious worm castings for your plants and garden. Instead of throwing away your pet waste, you can reuse it because the power of hungry Composting Redworms does the dirty work for you.
Our Pet Poo Converter is comprised of one sturdy polypropylene box and one tray with legs. The upper box has a perforated floor and a lid, and the lower box is fitted with a drain sprout in the bottom center. By having the worms in the top portion of the bin (where the dog waste is placed) the liquid (liquid tea) filters through the perforated holes into the bottom tray will drain. A cup or dish can be utilized to catch the liquid organic fertilizer rich in nutrients. As the worms actually eat the bacteria in the decomposing pet waste, there is no odor to worry about, simply add your pets droppings and see the results!
To begin, line the base of the top box with two or three layers of dampened newspaper. Add some partially rotted compost or potting mix, to form a layer about 1-2 inches deep. Add your purchased worms and cover with a piece of dampened carpet, burlap or light resistant plastic (such as a garbage bag) cut to size. Place the pet waste underneath this cover.
The Pet Poo Converter is a worm farm which harnesses the power of nature to recycle pet droppings into worm castings and liquid manure (compost tea). The tea, often referred to by gardeners as 'liquid gold', is highly concentrated and can be mixed one part tea to four parts water. Harness the power of nature and put it back into your garden!
The unit is easy to set up and operate and takes little space. No chemicals are used, and the Pet Poo Converter comes with comprehensive instructions regarding set-up and use.
The Pet Poo Converter will handle, on average, the droppings of two medium dogs. However, this will vary with age, diet, exercise and breed of dog. (Think Chihuahua vs. St Bernard). The greater the amount of droppings recycled through the Pet Poo Converter, the quicker the level of castings will build up. The castings can then be easily harvested, as per the instructions, and used around the flower garden or in potting mixes
This unit can also be used as a traditional worm bin for organic kitchen scraps. It is important to note that the bin must be designated for dog waste OR organic kitchen scraps. The worms cannot handle a mixed diet.
